This year, the Cagayan State University Carig campus produced 14 graduates with Cum Laude, an academic honor awarded to students who earned a general weighted average of 1.46 to 1.75 with grade not less than 2.5.
These honor students recognized in a program on April 6 at the Carig Amphitheater were Rody Fonacier (BS Civil Engineering), Abigail C. Cudal (AB Legal Management), Kathleen Keith R. Benzon (AB Political Science – ABPS), Keizel A. Geronimo (ABPS), April G. Campos (BS Biology), Milka Bago (BS Information Technology – BS Infotech), Lovely Balutao (BS Infotech), Russel Limco (BS Infotech), Kristofferson Gianan (BS Infotech), Francis Joseph Reyes (BS Infotech), Rosalina Sambrano (BS Infotech), Dennis Asuncion (BS Infotech), Rachelle Calayan (BS Infotech), and Edien S. Zingapan (AB Public Administration).
All of them underwent an oral interview before a panel led by CSU Vice President for Academic Affairs Fr. Ranhilio C. Aquino.
Among them, Ms Sambrano, an outstanding university student leader cited by the University Office of Student Services and Welfare (OSSW), earned the highest weighted average 1.46.
With their proud parents on stage, all of them received medals and certificates from CSU Carig Campus Executive Officer (CEO) Engr. Arthur Ibañez and from their respective deans who were around during the said recognition program.
In a message, CEO Ibañez congratulated all the awardees for “a job well done.”
He hoped that the awards they had received from the university “would serve as your inspiration to pursue what you want in your lives.”
“Use them to complete you as person,” said the campus head, who also praised the contribution of faculty members and campus officials in the advancement of the welfare and development of students.
He advised the awardees to have two things in their lives if they want to be successful: gaget ken saririt (Iluko words which mean hard work and sense of initiative).
On the same occasion, the CEO and university deans including Dr. Mariden Ventura-Cauilan, OSSW director, also handed in certificates and medals to graduates who gained academic distinction and ‘with merit’ honor.
Based on the student manual, academic distinction is awarded to those who garnered a grade within the Latin honors (Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Cum Laude) but with a grade lower than 2.5, and ‘with merit’ honor is given to graduates who got a grade of 1.76 to 2.0.
Those awarded with academic distinction were Jane S. Danguilan of the College of Industrial Technology (CIT), Dina Gacias, Ma. Bernadette S. Gevera, and Maryjane Mundo, all Political Science majors from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS).
With merit’ awardees were Vicente Doniega, Kristin Joy Langcay, Bryan Rodriguez, Robert Mendoza, Carol Vicky Vuelta, Maylin Asuncion, Catherine Tumbali, Jeny Mallillin, Rowena Dumlao, Anselmo Manzano, Ma. Norberta Mancilla, Myrna Tumanguil, Aimee Unite, Aileen Sumcad, Maricon Baccay, Felix Mariano, Cristina Parallag, Je-ann Tagangin, all from the College of Information and Computer Science (CICS).

Lemmao (ABLM), Suzette Castillejo (ABPS), Catherine B. Perez (BS Psychology), Jean Marie Suyu (ABPS), and Sheryl Antonio (BS Environmental Science).

Bautista, all from CIT, received the same honor along with College of Engineering’s Mark B. Paleg (BS Civil Engineering), College of Public Administration’s Maria Leilanie P. Agustin and Sarah Jane L. Butel, and College of Veterinary Medicine’s Herbert Guillermo.
The officials, too, called on stage for recognition graduates who did well along these areas: leadership, service, debate, journalism, sports, and culture.
