On April 30, two students from Cagayan State University namely, Maricris Mendez of Andrews Campus and Clifford Jun Marcos Mape of Gonzaga Campus, were among the selected students for the regionwide search for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP).
Mendez, a graduate of legal management, and Mape, a secondary education graduate, were among those awarded with certificates in a ceremony held at Saint Paul University Philippines with Tuguegarao Archbishop Sergio Utleg, chair of the regional executive committee, as one of the two guests invited to speak before the awardees, their parents, coaches and friends, the other being lawyer Imee Rose Sinco-Gaspar, a TOSP recipient.
At the onset of the competition, applicants were selected by a committee chaired by Mrs. Purita Licas, regional director of the Philippine Information Agency. They were required to submit documents until they were trimmed down and advanced to the interview.
Students Services Director Editha Pagulayan served as their mentor and CSU President Romeo R. Quilang and Gonzaga Campus Executive Officer Victor Balatico provided support for the school's bets, who will represent the region in the national screening.
The regional judges include Civil Service Provincial Director for Batanes Ms. Jovy Miguel, as chair, and Rev. Fr. Lloyd De Leon (Basilica Minore of Piat), Dr. Noemi Obcena (Cataggaman National High School), Dr. Hortencia Calvan (Department of Education Regional Office 2), and Ms. Licas, as members.
