Twenty-five first year students from the eight campuses participated in the quiz held at the CICS Conference Hall at CSU Carig Campus on Oct. 29.
In an interview, Mr. Joel Casibang, one of the official coaches, said that PSQ is being held annually, but this is the first time we are having the competition at the university level.
This year, the event was organized by the University Planning and Development Office and the Mathematics Club of the Arts and Sciences of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS).
Dr. Aniceto Udanga, dean of CAS, welcomed the coaches and the participants and thanked the administration for choosing CSU Carig as the venue for this yet another historic event for the University.
The organizers invited judges from the National Economic Development Authority tasked to primarily resolve issues that may arise during the competition. They were Mr. Jezreel Pattagguan, Ms. Karylle Bayubay and Mr. Ernesto de Peralta, all economic specialists of the said agency.
Prof. Danilo Paat, the official PSQ master, quizzed the contestants Statistics questions categorized as easy, average and difficult.
PSA prepared 30 multiple-choice questions.
After a grueling moment on solving problems, judges declared Jerico James Carag of Andrews Campus first placer.
Billy Jason Vuelta (Andrews) landed on second place, while Hipolito Rarangol III (Sanchez Mira) ended on the third spot.
All will represent the University in the regional level set on Nov. 10, 2015.
