Cagayan State University (CSU) officially launched the 2025 National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) with a series of activities held across its campuses, recognizing the role of women in nation-building and celebrating their invaluable contributions to society.
At the CSU Andrews Campus led by CEO Atty. Carla Marie Sumigad, the celebration commenced at the Claude Andrews Convention Center. Faculty, staff, and students donned purple attire, symbolizing justice, dignity, and women’s empowerment.
Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez, in his keynote address, highlighted the significance of gender equality, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 5—Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls—as a key pillar of national progress. He emphasized the vital role of Gender and Development (GAD) initiatives in addressing critical issues such as early pregnancy and ensuring that CSU’s infrastructure is designed to be inclusive and gender-sensitive.
Dr. Ibañez also expressed his deep appreciation for the women of CSU, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the university. “As the Officer-In-Charge of the Office of the University President, I encourage every woman here today—our employees and students—to embrace your limitless potential and step into your power. You are capable of achieving greatness, and your contributions are vital in shaping a 'Bagong Pilipinas,’” he said.
The program included the awarding of certificates to university offices and departments for their dedication to gender responsiveness and development initiatives. Women faculty, staff, utility and campus security personnel were recognized with flowers and certificates as tokens of appreciation for their service.
Anchored on the theme “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas,” CSU’s month-long celebration aims to advocate for gender inclusivity and women’s empowerment in various sectors of society.
The event was graced by key university officials, including OIC University President Dr. Arthur Ibañez, Dr. Mariden Cauilan (VPAA), Dr. Theresa Dimalanta (VPAF), Dr. Ana Marie Cauilan (VPIPRM), Dr. Junel Guzman (VPRDE). Also present were Zonta Club of Tuguegarao President Liza Mora Arroyo and Lallo Vice Mayor Maria Olivia Pascual, who both delivered inspiring messages.
The activity is an initiative of the Office of the University Gender and Development headed by Director Melvin Mora in partnership with the Zonta Club of Tuguegarao.
Meanwhile, CSU Lasam also began its observance of Women's Month last March 7. The event featured video tributes and the awarding of certificates to outstanding female faculty and staff. Further, CSU Piat also officially kicked-off the celebration of the National Women's Month on March 10.
