#CSUINFOCUS || CSU HOSTS PCC LUZON CLUSTER TRAINING ON HERD HEALTH MANAGEMENT

Cagayan State University hosts the Luzon Cluster training of the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) aimed at strengthening animal health professionals’ capabilities in integrated herd health management, with the activity officially opening today, September 22, 2026, at the CSU-Andrews Hotel Training Hall.

The three-day training, “Integrated Herd Health Management: Retooling Animal Health Coordinators o...n Veterinary Diagnostics, Biosecurity and Nutrition,” gathers veterinarians, farm managers, and animal health coordinators from different PCC National Headquarters units and the National Gene Pool, alongside participants from the Luzon Cluster representing UPLB, CLSU, DMMSU, MMMSU, and CSU.

Anchored on veterinary diagnostics, biosecurity, and nutrition, the training seeks to strengthen participants’ technical competencies in preventing and controlling disease, conducting surveillance, implementing biosecurity measures, managing nutrition, and carrying out animal health programs.

In his keynote address, Cagayan State University Officer-In-Charge President Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez described the three areas as interconnected components of one system. “Nutrition builds resilience. Biosecurity protects that resilience. Diagnostics tells us what action must be taken,” Dr. Ibañez said.

For animal health professionals working directly with herds, the approach means shifting attention from responding to illness alone toward maintaining animal health throughout the production cycle.

The training program, which will run until September 24, combines classroom discussions with field and laboratory-based activities. Topics that will be tackled include emerging and re-emerging diseases, disease surveillance, emergency response procedures, iHealth application, veterinary diagnostics, farm inspection, forage management, disease recognition, and hands-on diagnostic procedures.
