CSU, during the 2023 National Science and Technology Week celebration in Iloilo City, exhibited its revolutionary electric vehicles innovated by CSU and UP Diliman with Engr. Arthur Ibanez as its Program Leader and Engr. Audy Quebral and Engr. Michael Orpilla as CSU Project Leaders for E-Trike and C-Trike projects, respectively.
These elecronic vehicle projects are a result of the first ever NICER program in CSU bearing the title “Electromobility Research and Development Center” that was approved and implemented under the leadership of President Urdujah G. Alvarado.
The locally developed electric tricycle (e-trike) is revolutionizing sustainable transportation in the country by providing a cost-effective, energy efficient, and rider-friendly solution. It is assembled using locally sourced parts and components, fostering economic growth and community development.
On the other hand, the Converted Electric Tricycle or C-Trike embraces a cleaner and more economical mode of transportation through innovative electric tricycle conversion. The C Trike significantly reduces noise and air pollution, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable environment. Research by Engr. Arthur G. Ibanez and team shows that the acceptability of the C-Trike is high among prospective drivers knowing that they could enjoy lower operation and maintenance costs compared to conventional tricycles, making the c-Trike a more affordable and financially responsible choice. The stability and often lower cost of electricity further alleviate financial burdens on drivers, providing a reliable and cost-effective transportation solution.
The creation of the E-Trike and C-Trike is an output of the Electromibility Research and Development Center which is a collaborative project between DOST and CSU.
