Cagayan State University - Carig Campus, in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), hosted a two-day Intellectual Property Convention or “IPCON 2024”.
The event kicked off with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) to address the region’s specific Intellectual Property (IP) needs over the next three years. The MOU is focused on creating and implementing the Regional Development Plan on Intellectual Property (RDP-IP) aligned with the goals of Cagayan Valley to boost innovation, creativity, and economic growth.
Key signatories included CSU OIC President Arthur G. Ibañez, IPOPHL Director General Atty. Rowel S. Barba, along with representatives from Isabela State University, Nueva Vizcaya State University, Quirino State University, University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao, and other government agencies such as CHED, DepEd, DA, DILG, DOST, DTI, and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Meanwhile, the convention, held from October 9 to 10, 2024, at the CSU Carig Conference Hall, featured discussions and programs focused on the role of intellectual property in promoting regional development.
Cagayan Valley is one of the pioneering regions in the country to have launched a Regional Development Plan on Intellectual Property, following Iloilo City in the Western Visayas. According to POPHL, Region 02 ranked 4th nationwide in Utility Model filings and 7th in Industrial Design filings in 2023, with Cagayan and Isabela emerging as top provinces for IP filings from 2018 to 2023.
