Cagayan State University (CSU) inaugurated its ₱5-million Food Quality and Safety Laboratory to enhance food research and ensure compliance with industry standards in Cagayan Valley Region.
Funded by the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD), the facility will provide essential food laboratory testing services, reducing the need for researchers to seek testing facilities outside the region.
Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, DOST-PCIEERD Executive Director, encouraged faculty, students, and researchers to maximize the laboratory’s capabilities to advance food innovation and safety. “We need these kinds of facilities in order for us to meet the highest quality standards. Let's continue to work together to maximize, optimize the food potentials of this laboratory to advance food research and ensure food safety and accelerate the journey of innovative food products," he added.
Dr. Junel B. Guzman, CSU Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension and project leader, highlighted the laboratory’s key services, including Crude Fat Analysis, Crude Protein Analysis, Crude Fiber Analysis, Moisture Content Determination, and Ash Content Determination.
Dir. Virginia G. Bilgera, DOST 02 Regional Director, expressed support for CSU and envisioned the facility as a hub for collaboration among researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to address food safety challenges and drive economic growth.
The event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and laboratory tour, attended by university officials, government representatives, and industry stakeholders. The facility is set to receive its Certificate of Authority and License to Operate on April 4, 2025.
