CSU ATHLETES BAG MULTIPLE MEDALS AT 2025 NATIONAL SCUAA GAMES

Camiguin Island — Cagayan State University (CSU) athletes brought home multiple medals after competing in the 2025 National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Games held from April 23 to 27, 2025, in Camiguin Island.

Leading CSU’s medal haul was Ma. Kristine Yvette S. Aggabao, who clinched a gold medal in Pencak Silat (women’s division) and was named Best Female Athlete. Ma. Kristine Nicole S. Aggabao added a silver medal, while Jeanne Cinder N. Bariuan secured a bronze.

In Taekwondo, Kyslev Guzman (Carig Campus) won a bronze medal in the men’s team poomsae. Moahnna Tuppil and Allysha Mae C. Taguiam, both from Carig Campus, also earned bronze medals in the women's poomsae category. John Liggotan (Piat Campus) brought home a bronze in the men’s featherweight division.

In Arnis, Breegard Bitos (CSU Lal-lo) and Carl Joseph Fernando (CSU Carig) earned bronze medals in the men’s padded events. Lois Claire Alcantara (CSU Andrews) secured a bronze in the women’s pin weight division, while Jeycelyn Cabbab (CSU Carig) claimed a silver in the women’s lightweight division.

In Athletics, Jester Pascual captured a bronze medal in the javelin throw, Charme Cashle E. Pones (Aparri Campus) earned silver in the women's shot put event, and John Russel Villegas finished with a bronze in the men’s 800-meter run.

In Karatedo, the CSU Men’s Team, composed of Mark Paul Butac (CSU Gonzaga), Zaldy Jr. Borquillo (CSU Gonzaga), Joe Louis Kyle Balbi (CSU Carig), Christian Tibis (CSU Carig), Clydenn Jude Ubias (CSU Carig), and Christopher Tesoro (CSU Gonzaga), secured a bronze medal, while Alben Adonijah L. Cangas (CSU Andrews) also bagged a bronze in the individual kumite - 84 kilograms category. Meanwhile, Avenjosh Lim (CSU Carig) earned a silver medal in the team event in Archery.

The National SCUAA Games, hosted by Camiguin Polytechnic State College, gathered around 5,000 athletes from 113 participating state universities and colleges nationwide.
