Bannering the theme “Stop VAW, Look Behind Silence and Listen with Compassion,” Cagayan State University launched its 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women today, November 25, highlighting women's empowerment and the shared responsibility of protecting their rights.
University GAD Focal Person Mr. Melvin M. Mora stressed that this year’s theme reminds the public that “silence does not mean safety,” and urged women and communities to stand firmly against any form of violence.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Mariden V. Cauilan and Campus Executive Officer Atty. Carla Marie L. Sumigad emphasized that protecting women under the law requires collective action, not a struggle fought by women alone. They called on the community to work together to dismantle all forms of violence and abuse.
Meanwhile, CSU and the Commission on Human Rights Region II signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) during the event. Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Theresa B. Dimalanta explained that the partnership strengthens the integration of women’s rights into the university’s advocacies and its core functions in instruction, research, and extension.
The program also launched the university’s full lineup of 18-day activities, which includes VAW-related seminars, trainings, and workshops in partnership with CHR and the Zonta Club of Tuguegarao, along with free legal aid and assistance.
CSU students and employees also delivered a symbolic pledge of commitment, vowing to take an active stand in ending violence against women.
Other CSU campuses launched the campaign simultaneously yesterday, November 24.
