The Cagayan State University (CSU) community illuminated the Athena Grounds with vibrant lights and festive spirit during the official opening of Raniag ti CSU 2025, held at the CSU Andrews Campus on December 2.
The event started with a stunning display of brightness and hues through the Lantern Parade competition. With a route across the city, each campus incorporated their respective niche programs to the lighting installations, showcasing innovation and creativity.
Festivities ensued as the students filled the Athena Grounds and welcomed the lanterns of resilience and achievements with their own array of lights and colors, with a thanksgiving prayer led by University Chaplain Fr. Ranhilio C. Aquino, followed by the Christmas message by OIC University President Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez.
“As we open this celebration with the Christmas Tree lighting, may we be reminded of Cagayan State University as the source of light—consistently and purposively radiating for our students, our employees, and our community. CSU is the light that shine for the students standing into higher education.” President Ibanez highlighted the university’s role in light of the holiday spirit.
Raniag, an Ilocano word that translates to “light”, is exemplified by the CSU community, embodying its motto—Ad astra per aspera [To the stars through hardships].
The OIC University President, accompanied by CSU officials, campus executive officers, faculty and staff, and other distinguished guests, commenced the countdown and lighting ceremony, followed by a captivating performance titled “Thousand Voices” by CSU Andrews Basic PE Students.
Subsequently, CSU Andrews officials and faculty members showcased their talents with a spirited “Dance of Joy.”
The event concluded with the announcement of the winners in the lantern parade competition: CSU Piat campus emerged victorious, followed by Carig campus and Lallo campus, who secured second and third place, respectively.
