Today, Cagayan State University (CSU) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the implementation of a training program for Cagayan River conservation and sustainable management next year.
OIC President Arthur G. IbaƱez and CHED Chairperson Shirley Agrupis were the signatories while Dr. Ian Roger M. Francisco, university planning and development director, and Atty. Cinderella Filipina S. Benitez-Jaro, CHED executive director, served as witnesses.
To be funded by the commission, the training program aims to equip 100 faculty-researchers, non-teaching personnel engaged in research and select community folk particularly fisherfolk living along the banks of the mighty Cagayan River with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively participate in the conservation and sustainable management of the longest and the largest river in the Philippines.
Recognizing the river's vital role in supporting the communities along the river basin, agriculture, biodiversity, and the overall ecosystem, the training program emphasizes awareness, conservation techniques and strategies through research and development, and community engagement.
