CSU PUSHES WASTE-FREE CAMPUSES THROUGH SMART SANITATION SEMINAR

To strengthen its strategies toward sustainable and waste-free operations, Cagayan State University (CSU) convened campus personnel and stakeholders for the seminar “Smart Sanitation, Green Innovation: Building a Waste-Free Future” on March 23, 2026, at the Claude Andrews Convention Center.

In his message, CSU Officer-in-Charge President Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez highlighted that leadership plays a crucial role in translating sustainability frameworks into institutional practices, calling on participants to become active stewards of change. “Let us remember: innovation is meaningful only when it improves lives. Sustainability is powerful only when it is shared. And leadership is genuine only when it uplifts others,” Dr. Ibañez said.

The program featured resource speakers who discussed ecological solid waste management, sustainability-driven campus planning, and leadership roles in advancing green initiatives. The speakers included Mr. George C. Canapi, Forester and Chief of Ecological Solid Waste Management – DENR Region II; Dr. Florentina Dumlao, University Technical Adviser; Dr. Urdujah G. Alvarado, CSU Board of Regents Member and CESB Chairperson; and Dr. Francis N. Baleta, Science and Technology Fellow and Balik Scientist of DOST.

Initiated by the CSU Andrews Campus led by CEO and Auxiliary Director Terence A. Tejada, in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance, headed by Dr. Theresa B. Dimalanta, the seminar was attended by various administrative directors and coordinators, general services officers, environmental representatives, pollution control officers, and food service and sanitation officers from across the university's campuses.
