• Nipa as one of the Mangrove species grow
in river deltas and brackish water and can
survive for more than 50 years
• Nipa sap contains 10-20% sugar
• 85% of the nipa sap sugar can be
fermented to produce ethanol without
using yeast
• Nipa sap is used for the production of
nipa wine and vinegar
• Nipa leaves are used as thatching
materials/nipa shingles
• Nipa produces the most bioethanol
(12,000 liters/ha) compared to sugarcane,
cassava, coconut and potato.
