Cagayan State University has once again showcased its sporting prowess by clinching an impressive 23 gold medals at the Association of State Colleges and Universities – Solid North (ASCU-SN) Sports and Socio-Cultural Olympics. The event, held from July 2-5 at the Isabela State University Echague Campus in Echague, Isabela, saw CSU’s talented athletes emerge victorious in a range of disciplines.
Standout were the gold medal-winning teams and individuals, including the exceptional players of the 4x100 meter relay (46 above), the triumphant chess team (men) and the skilled lawn tennis players in both the women’s singles and doubles categories. The table tennis and badminton teams also excelled, with victories in various singles and doubles events.
Led by Dr. Junel B. Guzman, Vice President for Research Development and Extension and Dr. Giovanni Morales, University Sports Director, the CSU contingent of 150 faculty and administrative personnel-athletes displayed exceptional skill throughout the competition. The event brought together 27 state colleges and universities from Region 1, Region 2, Region 3 and the Cordillera Administrative Region in a spirit of friendly competition.
In addition to their sporting achievements, CSU also made a mark in the culture and arts competition, securing accolades in various categories. The university’s participation in the theme “Abante Norte: Embracing Differences, Celebrating Togetherness” was highlighted by a second-place finish in the video documentary contest and a commendable third runner-up placement in the Search for Ms. ASCU-SN 2024, where Ms. Glenda Balisi represented CSU with distinction.
Vice President Guzman expressed gratitude to all employees who represented the university at the Olympics while Director Morales thanked the athletes for their participation and commitment. Looking ahead, Dir. Morales announced that the next ASCU-SN Olympics will be hosted at the Mariano Marcos State University in Batac, Ilocos Norte, setting the stage for another much awaited round of competition.
The standout participation of CSU at the ASCU-SN Olympics 2024 emphasizes the university’s commitment to excellence in both sports and cultural endeavors, with the Champions and Gold Medalists as shining examples of CSU’s athletic prowess and competitive spirit.
