CSU CARIG HOSTS FIRST INTERNATIONAL VIRTUAL ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION ON AI IN MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION

Cagayan State University - Carig Campus hosted the first international virtual roundtable discussion dubbed as “Commversations”, focusing on ethical horizons, emerging opportunities, and global challenges of artificial intelligence in communication, October 4, 2024.

Approximately 326 students and faculty members from media and communication programs participated in the event, including those from College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) of CSU Carig. They were joined by students specializing in advertising, mass communication, and public relations and members of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies from UiTM Shah Alam Campus, attending both virtually via Zoom and in person.

r. Arthur G. Ibañez, CSU OIC president, said that the collaboration with UiTM is a key factor in enriching the discussion, bringing diverse perspectives and fostering global knowledge-sharing. "Such collaboration underscores the importance of learning beyond borders, of embracing different viewpoints, and of nurturing a global community of ethically-minded media and communication professionals," Dr. Ibañez said.

He concluded with a call to action, encouraging all participants to continue the dialogue on responsible AI, innovation, and collaboration for the betterment of society. "Let us COMMverse for knowledge-creation, sharing, innovation, and collaboration," he said.

The event featured multiple panel discussions, covering topics such as Emerging AI Innovations in Media and Communication: Opportunities and Technologies, Implementing AI in Media and Communication: Strategies and Best Practices, Risks, Challenges, and Ethical Considerations in AI in the Communication and Media Sector, and AI in Communication and Media Education: Transforming Learning and Teaching.

The Commversations was organized by the Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Bachelor of Science in Development Communication programs of CSU Carig Campus, in partnership with Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam Campus of Malaysia.
