Cagayan State University (CSU) and Verde Carbon Capture, Inc. entered into a research partnership through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing on January 27, 2026, at Central Administration Conference Hall, after Japanese investors paid a courtesy meeting to OIC President Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez.
The collaboration introduces Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) technology in Cagayan rice fields to reduce methane emissions and improve water efficiency. The study will measure greenhouse gas emissions, assess soil and crop performance, and evaluate farmers’ readiness to adopt the practice.
Funded initially with ₱1.511 million from VCCI, the project begins in 150 hectares and supports long-term carbon credit validation and climate-resilient agriculture. CSU will manage research implementation and dissemination of findings. The MOA covers a three-year period.
