Cagayan State University joined fellow Region II State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the opening ceremonies of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) 12th National Culture and the Arts Festival (NCAF) 2026 in Iloilo City on April 8.
The Region II delegation, composed of Isabela State University, Nueva Vizcaya State University, Quirino State University, Batanes State College, and Philippine Normal University, participated in the grand parade from Jaro Plaza to West Visayas State University (WVSU).
Nearly 4,000 student-artists and around 500 coaches from across the country gathered for the national festival, hosted by WVSU under the leadership of University President Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz.
Delivering her keynote message, Senator Loren B. Legarda, Chairperson of the Committee on Culture and the Arts and the Committee on Higher, Technical, and Vocational Education, through PASUC President Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, stressed that cultural heritage must be actively lived, preserved, and supported.
She encouraged young artists, saying, “Use your art to document local histories, to champion your mother tongues, to defend your heritage sites, and to open new livelihood opportunities for your communities. Sapagkat sa huli, ang kultura ay hindi lamang pamana—ito ay kinabukasan.”
The event was also graced by Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, CHED Commissioner; Hon. Eric B. Zerrudo, National Commission for Culture and the Arts Chairperson; and representatives from the local and provincial governments of Iloilo.
The delegations from different regions are set to compete in various categories, including dramatic arts, visual arts, literary competitions, dance and music events, and the Mr. & Ms. PASUC pageant. The live band competition officially commenced following the opening ceremonies.
Anchored on the theme “Pagsaulog: Pagpasidungog sa Aton Panublion, Kultura, kag mga Bahandi” (Honoring Our Cultural Heritage and Treasures), NCAF 2026 celebrates the diverse talents of SUC students nationwide while promoting the preservation and advancement of Filipino culture.
