As artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, cloud computing, and other emerging technologies rapidly reshape industries, Cagayan State University (CSU) is pushing its College of Information and Computing Sciences (CICS) to rethink what and how it teaches.

The challenge was highlighted by Officer-In-Charge University President Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez during the opening of the CICS Curriculum Revision and Syllabi Enhancement 2026, held August 18 at the CSU Office of the President Conference Hall.

The two-day activity, which runs until August 19, brings together CICS faculty members, campus officials, students, alumni, government representatives, industry partners, parents, and other stakeholders through a hybrid face-to-face and Zoom format.

During the opening program, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Mariden V. Cauilan delivered the welcome remarks, CICS Dean Charmie S. Calvo presented the rationale, and College QAA/ISO Coordinator Dr. Dexter P. Dumayag introduced the participants and objectives.

In his inspirational message, Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez challenged CICS to future-proof its programs by moving beyond basic computer skills and strengthening competencies in AI, data analytics, cybersecurity, and robotics.

He also pushed for faculty upskilling, AI micro-credentials, paperless and computerized university operations, a university-wide LMS, upgraded data centers and connectivity, and stronger industry collaboration.

Businesses and other organizations are being invited to contribute their expertise and help identify the competencies that graduates will need in actual workplaces.

The undertaking involves five CICS programs in Carig Campus namely, BS Information Technology, BS Computer Science, Bachelor Multimedia Arts, Bachelor of Library Information Science, and BS Information Systems.

The curriculum review covers the programs' educational objectives, student outcomes, course sequencing, professional and major courses, laboratory and internship requirements, and alignment with CHED standards, AACCUP expectations, and industry requirements.

The university-wide BSIT curriculum will likewise undergo harmonization in Aparri, Lal-lo, Lasam, Sanchez Mira, Solana, and Piat campuses.
