Integrated Farming
Story
Sta. Ana is one of the tourist destinations in the northern part of the country because
of its scenic coastal areas. Soon, tourism industry in this area will be expanded since
agricultural lands are now reclaimed for the construction of new airport and other
infrastructures. These changes threaten farmers who rely on farming. It is timely that the
Extension Program for Agri-fisheries and National Development (EXPAND) project entails
the establishment of diversified farming system at Visitacion, Santa Ana, Cagayan. This
integrated farming project dispersed goat, sheep and livestock to the members of a farmers’
organization in Sta. Ana.
Mr. Dhadz Esguerra, one of the beneficiaries is very positive on the outcome of this project,
“Dakkel nga banag daydiay kalding…Dakkel ti outcome na kanyak (ta) nakitak nu kasanu
kangina ti kalding tattan…dakkel nga tulong kadagitoy beneficiaries pagur-urayan da kadagitoy
mulmula da a pagay ta adda dagidiay nga pagtaraken ti kalding.”
The beneficiaries are also expanding because the first group is already re-dispersing goat kids to
other members. “Maragsakan da ta nangina (referring to price of goat). Diay sakripisyo nga manu
aldaw da lang nga ag-training adda maawat da nga kalding. Isu nga tuloy-tuloy kuma daytoy kastoy.”
They are also thankful to the visiting veterinarians who encourage them to cooperate in the project. Dhadz Esguerra
They take care of the medical needs of their ruminants and livestock.
As a leader of the organization, he extends their gratitude to CSU and partner agency, “Agyamyamanak Farmer
la unay ti CSU ken daytoy tulong nga impaay da kanyami ditoy Sta. Ana.”
He continues to encourage his fellow farmers to sustain the project and extend it to more beneficiaries.
“Para kanyayu nga taraknen yu nga nasayaat daytan, …uray awan ton daytoy CSU nga partner tayu .. EXPAND
