A Cacao Tree Planting Activity at the CSU Andrews Grounds today was spearheaded by University President Urdujah Gaerlan Alvarado and participated by University key officials to exemplify the continued strengthening of the establishment of the Cacao Development initiatives of CSU to boost its competitiveness in the market.
Cagayan State University through the Lasam Campus enforces the Cacao Intensification for Sustainability of Pandemic Responsive Organizations towards Livelihood, Income, and Fertile Environment (CACAO IS PRO LIFE) which aims to offer science-based policy intervention and responses to help local cacao farmers thrive and be well-known across the islands.
Dr. Florante Victor M. Balatico, the Campus Executive Officer of Lasam Campus, said that the Cacao Tree Planting Activity is a symbolic gesture of the University’s collective response and commitment of developing the cacao industry by being flexible even during the pandemic days and beyond. “This program brings the University at the forefront as we seek to play a pivotal role in revitalizing the local cacao industry” he said further.
Adhering to the demand of cacao on both the local and international market, Cagayan State University advocates to bolster cacao as a vital agricultural commodity in the province.
The tree planting activity is part of the preparations for the virtual launching of CSU’s Cacao Processing Center for the DOST Regional Science and Technology Week on November 17, 2020.
