Institutionalization of the Cagayan State University Intellectual Property Policy

This policy is a general reference to various guidelines and procedures in the creation, protection, and commercialization of the university’s intellectual properties and its related activities in the Cagayan State University. Approved by the Board of Regents last October 18. 2021.

The first draft of the Cagayan State University Intellectual Property Policy was created as an output for the DOST-PCAARRD’s IP Policy and Technology Transfer Protocol Development Mentorship Series. The first installation of the event focused on IP Policy Development and Review Write shop, which was held last August 31 to September 3, 2021. This was attended by the CSU Vice President for Research, Development and Extension, Director of Knowledge and Technology Management, University Intellectual Property Rights Management Officer, and the members of the CSU IMPACT Project. They then spearheaded the drafting of the university IP policy. On September 14, 2021, this draft was presented to the CSU Management Committee, where they shared their comments and suggestions for the improvement of the said draft. After the draft was further polished, including the Management Committee’s comments and suggestions, it was presented to the culminating activity of the IP Policy Development and Review Write shop last September 16, 2021. During this review session, the resource persons from the IPOPHL suggested several revisions, which were then incorporated to develop the final version of the IP Policy. This was presented to the 82nd Regular Meeting of the Board of Regents last October 18, 2021, where it was ruled approved by the board members. At the moment, this IP Policy is being disseminated to the different campuses of the University as part of the extensive information campaign on IP creation, ownership, commercialization, and management. With the institutionalization of this policy, it is anticipated that faculty researchers, staff, students, and even visiting researchers would create innovative technologies that will help in today’s societal issues.
