CSU IGNITES GLOBAL DIALOGUE ON FUTURES THINKING FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN 3RD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

Spearheaded by the Cagayan State University (CSU) in collaboration with various international institutions, over 350 participants from around the world converged for the 3rd International Conference on Future Thinking towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) yesterday, December 22, 2023, held via Zoom platform.
Since December 2021, through the pioneering vision of CSU University President Urdujah G. Alvarado, the conference continues to bring together scholars, academicians, and students who advocate policy change and foster a cross-disciplinary understanding of Futures Thinking’s role in realizing the SDGs.
In her opening message, Dr. Alvarado emphasized the responsibility of educators and institutions to empower individuals and communities to address pressing issues of the world. “We have the roles to play not only to bring awareness to our current situations but also to empower our constituents and stakeholders so they will have the foresight abilities, risk management skills, and reflective thinking capabilities to enable them to contribute in their respective professional organizations and communities to ensure intergenerational fairness,” the president said.
Keynote Speaker Atty. Ma. Antonette C. Velasco – Allones, Undersecretary for Finance and Internal Affairs, Department of Migrant Workers (BMW), introduced the GEO-STEP Challenges which include sustainability on climate change, technological disruption, economic inequality, and political instability and how to address these through practicing ethical ways of leading and living. She also presented the Quintuple Innovation Helix-Plus Framework, a collaborative approach that recognizes diverse perspectives to provide collaborative solutions.
The conference featured esteemed resource speakers from across the globe, including Dr. Lizan Perante-Calina (PhilFutures), Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd. Fadhil bin Md Din (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia), Dr. Fr. Augustine Thomas Pamplany (Yuvakshetra Institute of Management Studies, India), and Prof. Dr. Rozainun Binti Ab Aziz (UNITAR International University, Malaysia).
Afternoon sessions offered deeper dives into seven key themes, ranging from governance and sustainability engagement to youth leadership and harnessing technology for Society 6.0.
The 3rd International Futures Thinking Conference is in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia; Unitar International University, Malaysia; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia; Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera UTARA, Indonesia; Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar, Indonesia; Yuvakshetra Institute of Management Studies, India; National Taiwan Ocean University, Taiwan; National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan; Philippine Futures Thinking Society; Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Cagayan Chapter; and Philippine Association of Medical technologists, Cagayan Chapter.
