The CSU Bamboo Sanctuary in Gonzaga, Cagayan was graced by the presence of Department of Agriculture. Undersecretary DV Savellano today. He was welcomed by Dr. Froilan Pacris, Campus Executive Officer of Gonzaga Campus and Dr. Urdujah Alvarado, University Technical Adviser and Former President who was tasked by OIC Arthur Ibanez to represent him. Also accompanying the undersecretary were officials from the Department of Agriculture and Department of Trade and Industry led by DA Regional Director Rose Mary Aquino and DTI Assistant Regional Director
During the visit, Campus Executive Officer Froilan Pacris provided a general explanation of the components of the Bamboo Sanctuary. The undersecretary was given a tour of the tissue culture laboratory in the Mangrove and Bamboo Research and Innovation Center, the Bamboo Setum, and the Bamboo Nursery. These facilities showcase the university’s commitment to research and innovation in the field of bamboo cultivation.
CSU Gonzaga saw this visit as an opportunity to present a project proposal aimed at upgrading the bamboo projects of CSU for food, industry, and environmental sustainability in Region 02. The university is dedicated to promoting the use of bamboo as a sustainable resource that can benefit various sectors of society.
The presence of Undersecretary DV Savellano and other officials from the DA and DTI highlights the importance of the Bamboo Sanctuary and its potential impact on the region. The collaboration between CSU and these government agencies signifies a shared commitment to promoting sustainable development and environmental conservation through bamboo cultivation.
The visit to the CSU Bamboo Sanctuary was a successful and productive exchange of ideas and initiatives. It is hoped that through the support of Undersecretary Savellano and RD Aquino, this will lead to further advancements in bamboo research and innovation, ultimately benefiting the community and the environment.
The Bamboo Sanctuary is home to 46 bamboo species and a diverse Eco-Farm tourism destination site with conference and accomodation amenities and a restocafe.
