amboo, as a commodity, has always been admired for its great strength in combatting mighty winds and in its
flexibility in the harshest conditions. It is a force of nature that grows and thrives rampantly on its own. Honing
Bthese characteristics of a bamboo to heart, Cagayan State University at Gonzaga provides a niche to the Mangrove
and Bamboo-based Agroforestry Program of the University which strives to improve marine diversity and promote
environmental protection in the province.
This book aptly named “Tangkiran”, an Iluko term representing vigor, resiliency and substance is a testament to the strength,
adaptability, and hard work that CSU at Gonzaga has continuously put forward to the community it serves.
With bamboo being recognized as a high-value crop by the Department of Agriculture, the possibilities that it possesses
branches out in more ways than one. The recognition of this opportunity brings CSU more prospects to enhance the bamboo
industry in the province. CSU provides a haven for Mangrove and Bamboo-based research with extensive programs that
have touched many lives in the community. The CESTEEPH program, the CSU Bamboo Sanctuary and the newly accredited
Farm and Eco-Tourism Site, all at CSU Gonzaga, are living testimonies of the dedication and strength that the campus has
achieved in advocating its niche program.
I congratulate the men and women of CSU Gonzaga for a job well done! With the assistance of our partner government and
non-government agencies, and with the support of the Central Administration together with the other campuses as well
as your passionate and unrelenting service to the community you serve, I am certain that this campus is well on its way to
trekking more milestones in the future.
