Cagayan State University (CSU), in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), is holding a two-day seminar on Food Innovation Center (FIC) protocols and product development at the CSU Claude Andrews Convention Center, beginning April 7, 2025.
The two-day seminar aims to orient faculty researchers from all CSU campuses on the operational procedures and protocols of the FIC to ensure the quality, efficiency, and proper coordination of research and development activities related to food innovation.
In his opening remarks, CSU Carig Campus Executive Officer Engr. Roger P. Rumpon emphasized that the university’s food innovation initiatives contribute directly to three Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Zero Hunger, No Poverty, and Sustainable Communities.
“If we innovate on food processes and food products, we are addressing at least three of the 17 SDGs. What we are doing complies with these goals,” Engr. Rumpon said.
Meanwhile, CSU OIC President Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez encouraged participants to maximize the opportunity to learn from the seminar, stressing its relevance in improving the quality and impact of university research in support of various stakeholders, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“Our protocols should be responsive to the current needs. The FIC is not only serving CSU but also helping other stakeholders, including our MSMEs,” Dr. Ibañez noted.
Serving as the resource speaker is Dr. Anthony C. Sales, DOST Region XI Director and National Program Coordinator of FIC-DOST. His sessions cover topics such as FIC protocols, product development and innovation, FIC-related projects, satellite FIC establishment, milestones, challenges, and the next phase of FIC operations.
The event is attended by product development coordinators from different CSU campuses and key university officials, including Dr. Junel B. Guzman, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension; Dr. Gilbert C. Magulod Jr., Director for Knowledge and Technology Management; Dr. Urdujah G. Alvarado, University Consultant; and Prof. Bryan Lacambra, Dean of the College of Industrial Technology.
