Life Transformed through CEST EEPH

The Tapel Fisherfolk Association through their President Manolo Paneda expressed its
gratitude to CSU and its collaborating agencies like Department of Science and Technology
(DOST) and Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) -Gonzaga for the opportunity to improve
their economic condition through the CESTEEPH Program. Success

“Isu nga dakkel unay ti yaman mi ti CSU ken ti sabali pay nga ahensiya ti gobyerno ta
winelcome da kami nga umay makipagtraining wenu mangipakaamu nga adda project.
Daytoy programa ti CESTEEPH ket nakariknaan mi met ti kasla limmaganan ti panagbiag Story
mi. Babaen dagiti alternatibo nga panag-income dagiti panagmulmula ti mangroves launay
pinagalaga mi ti free-range chicken, daytay dryer nga PORTASOL ket nakarikna kami ti paglag-
anan ti panagbiag mi.” (We are highly indebted to CSU and to other government agencies for
welcoming us to attend trainings and for introducing us this project. The CESTEEPH Program
changed our living conditions by providing alternative sources of income like mangroves planting,
free-range chicken production and Portasol dryers”.)

According to Mr. Paneda, the different components of the program brought changes in various
     aspects: increased awareness of people in protecting the environment;  increased source of income;
and developed closer family and community ties. Women supported their spouses acknowledging
that these projects are for their children. “Kayatan dagiti babbai ma’am ti tumulong kadakami nga
lallaki. Ta isu da met lang ti number one nga makatulong kadakami nga assawa da kada amma da
siyempre dagidiay annak da mairanud met kadagiti proyekto ti CESTEEPH.” (The women liked helping
us -men. Seeing that their children are benefited from the program, they are our number one supporters.)

Seeing the potential of production, specifically the Free-range Chicken ignited the interest of different
agencies like the DENR, BFAR, and MAO-Gonzaga and private sectors to engage in it. To date, several Manolo Paneda
community members in Tapel, Gonzaga, Cagayan are engaged in free-range chicken production. “Haan Fisherman
laengen nga sikami a sangapulo nga naikkan ti free-range chicken ti adda manok na ta adu dagiti kaarruba
mi nga gimmatang ti itlog sada pinaukopan kadagijay dati nga manok da” (Besides the ten beneficiaries who
were given free-range chicks, many of our neighbors are raising their own. They bought eggs from us for
     brooding purposes.) Barangay

Appreciating the short and long-term benefits of the program, the association wish that more community Tapel
members will be included as CESTEEPH beneficiaries so that more families could benefit from the program.
     Thus, more lives are transformed.
